Seeing Stars

Today was a great day to kick off our academy!  The weather was beautiful, the kids were relaxed and energized after having a week off of school, and the teachers were excited to meet them and dig in to reading and math.

During our morning assembly we introduced our norms for the academy:
    Always do your best.
    AND
Do the right thing even when no one is looking.
Teachers will be actively noticing students following these norms and recognizing them by writing their names on stars.

These stars enter students into a drawing during the assemblies for a free book, which they get to choose.  We will also be looking for stars who might want to read to Ms. Stephens’ pet hedgehog, Hagrid, who is also attending the academy this summer.

We post the stars in the gym where we have our assemblies twice a week.  It’s exciting to see the walls covered with stars by the end of the program!

We are looking forward to the next 17 days of learning and seeing stars!
