The Golden Rule

To kick off our academy’s community building, students in each class buddied up with a student from another class to share the book The Golden Rule by Ilene Cooper.  As Cooper puts it best, “This book is a gentle reminder of a timeless rule for parent and child: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”  The rule is explained through the lens of a multitude of traditions and cultures.

In this morning’s assembly we watched the following clip that ties in so well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d56rsXJ86Yw

Then some of our buddy groups came up to share what they discussed together when they read the book.  The students made great comments!  For example, “Not everyone does the right thing, and you can’t make them do the right thing.  Maybe if they see you doing the right thing, they will want to, too.”

We hope everyone enjoys the beautiful weather today and has a great Father's Day weekend.  The teachers sure enjoyed the nice day today with a little impromptu hula hooping at recess.  It’s important to balance work with play, right?!  Happy Friday, everyone!
