Sometimes we read books that inspire us to take action. This happened to one of our fifth grade reading groups that reads with one of our reading specialists, Mrs. Crocker. This group recently finished the book
Mick Harte Was Here by Barbara Park, in which the main character struggles with the death of her brother who lost his life in a bike accident. His life might have been saved if he had been wearing a helmet. Upon finishing this book, the group decided they had a message to share with our community. They wrote a skit and song which was performed in this morning’s assembly, followed by a discussion on bike safety rules. (This afternoon’s assembly watched a bike safety BrainPop and discussed.) We are so proud of the creativity and initiative of these students!
We know summer is a time for kids to have fun and enjoy playing outside. Thanks to these students, we are reminded to be safe.
